Abbey Park Pets Corner (Leicester City Council)
Leicester’s Pets’ Corner has been a popular free attraction for decades – but it now needs a makeover.
The guinea pigs, rabbits, ducks, chickens, birds and goats who live in this corner of Abbey Park are all well-cared for and well-loved, but their surroundings haven’t been updated for years. And the facilities for the families who come to see the animals urgently need improving too.
So we want to upgrade Pets’ Corner for the animals – as well as for the thousands of children who visit every year.
If our bid to the People’s Millions is successful, we’ll be able to create new enclosures and shelters – as well as providing more enrichment activities for our animals.
And we also want to make sure that our visitors enjoy coming to Pets’ Corner – and that they take something positive away with them when they leave.
Path improvements, better access for disabled visitors and new improved interpretation panels will enhance the experience for visitors – and the installation of much-needed hand-washing facilities will allow more children to interact with the animals and encourage more schools to visit Pets’ Corner.
As well as these improvements, we also want the project to provide new learning and work experience opportunities for the local community. Volunteers, trainees, work experience students and community groups will be able to take part in a wide range of activities, learning about landscaping, gardening, animal welfare and much more.
These proposals will transform Pets’ Corner into one of the best free animal attractions in the region – but we need £50,000 to make it happen.
Please help these plans become reality by voting for Pets’ Corner on Wednesday 26 November.
