Parks for People (Worthing Churches Homeless Projects)
The project will secure mentoring opportunities for disadvantaged people to work with the community to regenerate Beach House Park. This will involve working in collaboration with the Local Council and voluntary groups in Worthing. Activities will include building 6 concrete chess boards, raised flower beds and redesigning the park to create habitats for wildlife. The aim is to improve the park and encourage community use by providing alternative activities such as chess and gardening.

Help Worthing Churches Homeless Projects secure funding to improve the facilities in Beach House Park.
On Tuesday 25 November you will have the opportunity to try and secure £50,000 funding from the People’s Millions to enable the installation of 6 concrete chess boards and secure the services of a mentor to work alongside clients of WCHP and members of the public to improve the flower beds and borders in the park, restoring it to its former glory.

Worthing Churches Homeless Projects have been operating in Worthing for over 23 years. We provide help, advice and accommodation to homeless and insecurely housed men and women in Worthing. Homelessness is a community issue and Worthing Churches Homeless Projects rely heavily on the support of the local community to enable us to do our work.
This project will enable Worthing Churches Homeless Projects and our clients give back something to the community that has helped us for so long. We hope that by encouraging members of the public and clients of the project to work together, both will gain a better understanding of each other, helping to dispel the many myths surrounding homelessness.
Our clients often express their wish to be able to repay the community that has helped them in their journey out of homelessness, therefore, we spoke to Adur & Worthing Council to see if there was anywhere they would like the charity to be involved with improving and the council suggested this park.
The chessboards will be located in the spot which used to be utilised for grandstand seating for the bowls competition. Work will then commence on the various beds and borders, renewing shrubs and helping make the park a more attractive place for all concerned.
