The Acorn Project (Blaby Parish Council )
The Acorn Project
Locally there are no dedicated public inclusive play areas. We believe every less able child and young person has the right to ‘have fun’ like any other child and we need your help to make this happen. 170 pupils from Birkett House School currently visit Oakfield Park weekly and are able to enjoy the green space the park has to offer but are excluded from regular play and all of the associated benefits due to lack of suitable play equipment.
If we win, we will install 12 exciting and stimulating new pieces of play equipment into a dedicated inclusive play area on Oakfield Park.
This is a fantastic and exciting opportunity for South Leicestershire to win a facility that will change the lives of local families and carers of less able children. The new equipment will also give all pre-school children and toddlers an exceptional and unique sensory experience which is currently lacking within South Leicestershire.
If you were a parent with 2 kids, 1 able bodied and 1 wheelchair bound, would you want to watch 1 child play with their friends and enjoy all the fun equipment the park has to offer whilst the other sits on the side lines only able to watch their sibling? We don’t think so and that’s why we need your vote.
Birkett House School and Blaby Parish Council are in the running to win £50,000 funding for an inclusive playground on Oakfield Park, Blaby.
“The Acorn Project” selected by The People’s Millions goes head to head with another project on Central ITV News on Tuesday 25 November 2014 between 6pm and 6.30pm with public voting from 9am and midnight on the same day (25th).
The Daily Mirror will release the details of each People’s Millions project on 25 November plus the telephone number for the public to vote for their favourite project. For more information please call 0116 2784728 or check out our website at www.leicestershireparishcouncils.org/blabyparish
