This scheme will focus on transforming five open spaces close to schools in Lewisham. The regeneration work will take place in Downham, Whitefoot and Bellingham wards of Lewisham, which are currently among the most deprived in the UK.
Almost 40% of children in the three wards live in poverty, 28% of residents have no qualifications and 12% of 16 to 24-year-olds are in receipt of workless benefits.
The Main Project Aims Include:
To reduce fly tipping and antisocial behaviour around these areas, creating community spaces that local people can be proud of.
To provide training and support for 5 community champions to work with up to 80 other adults, children and young people on projects at each of the green spaces.
To create a children’s eco play area, a small garden with planters and benches or a permanent sculpture or art project.
To provide accredited training for young people around managing the environment.
SPACE INVADERS. TRANSFORMING SPACES. TRANSFORMING LIVES.
