Snack in the Box (The Square Chapel Trust)
Good grub homegrown at Orangebox young people’s centre. Snack in the Box is a chance for young people to open a brand new cafe in Halifax that will offer employment and training opportunities in a professional work place. The idea has grown from talking to local young people about their concerns where issues of lack of employment, health, obesity and body image kept coming up.
The Snack in the Box café project can help overcome these by employing 10 young people and training a further 100 over the year gaining skills, understanding and experience in everything that goes into running a café. This will include catering, cleaning, customer service, front of house, menu development, marketing, team-working, budget management, growing their own food in Orangebox’s rooftop allotments and looking for food to buy locally.
The café will cater to the young people who use Orangebox young people’s centre, their parents/carers, local businesses and anyone who has an event at Orangebox.
Orangebox had a pilot project earlier this year run by Project Challenge, which was a great success in which young people were trained in the Orangebox café and went on to gain skills and employment. Snack in the Box will open this opportunity out to more young people and The People’s Millions will enable us to do this.
So, if you think this is a worthy cause please vote for us on Tuesday 25 November!
