Large numbers of patients with dementia will spend weeks in hospital and are unable to enjoy any time outside due to the complex nature of their condition, and the difficulties of ensuring their safety away from a ward. However, research shows that being outside can help to maintain normal sleeping patterns, relieve distress and make people happy!
The dementia-friendly garden at Yeovil Hospital will be specially designed to provide a safe, stimulating and enjoyable outdoor space to be enjoyed by all patients, but particularly those with dementia.
This project will allow us to create a safe therapeutic space that patients with dementia can visit along with their friends and families. We plan to run activities in the garden which will benefit members of the wider community.
We need your vote! The phone number will be released on Tuesday 25 November and will appear on this website at 9am. It will also be available in the Daily Mirror, on our website: www.yeovilhospital.nhs.uk, via social media and on our blog: www.justimagineydh.wordpress.com
If you would like to help us to promote this project and secure more votes, please call us on 01935 384960.
Just by sharing the number on the day with your friends, family and colleagues you could help us win £50,000 to create a dementia-friendly garden.
