Mountford Makeover (Cornwall Care Limited)
The project will create a useable sensory garden in a nursing home specialising in dementia and end of life care. The project will also improve access from the main building to the garden as currently wheelchair users and people with conditions such as Parkinson’s find it extremely difficult to go out into the garden. The project will create a space where families can spend quality time with loved ones in the latter stages of their lives.
Mountford home deputy manager Sue Kimpton said: “We really hope that the ITV Westcountry television viewers will recognise the enormous benefits from our garden makeover for a generation which deserves to have a beautiful outdoor space and will vote for us.
“The quality of life for our residents and their families will be greatly enhanced if we can secure this Big Lottery funding award to improve access, particularly for those in wheelchairs and with mobility impairments, out through the French doors from our lounge into the garden.
“We need to level the garden and would like to provide a wheelchair friendly greenhouse because many of our residents would benefit from pottering and making a connection with nature.
“Our makeover plan would include a sensory experience with scented plants and a chicken coop.”
