Infusion is an ambitious programme which aims to bring together people from different backgrounds, particularly children and young people, to enjoy the arts and be inspired through creativity. It offers an amazing opportunity for different groups in Stoke-on-Trent to celebrate and share their own artistic traditions.

People’s Millions money will enable young people to work with professional artists to create high quality artworks inspired by the museum’s world collections. These include superb Chinese, Japanese and Islamic pottery as well as the world famous Staffordshire Hoard. Many of these wonderful objects have similar themes, shapes and patterns. Our artists will work with young people to draw out these common themes and show how they relate to their own lives and communities.

There will be visits to other places, where there are significant collections that reflect important cultural traditions, such as Islamic art and design and Hindu culture. A series of themed events will highlight different styles of arts, crafts, music, dance and storytelling. These will give local children the chance to develop their own interpretations of traditional styles and perform in front of a live audience. The programme will close with a major exhibition and event at the Potteries Museum at the end of 2015.

Infusion will encourage greater understanding and appreciation of different cultures. It will focus on Asian arts but appeal to everybody, because we want to promote a sense of shared heritage and identity.
