Song Born Every Minute (St Mary's Arts Trust Limited)
Bringing new and expectant mothers together through song, singing and breathing!
The ‘Song born every minute’ project will give people from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to come together, belong, connect, learn from each other and escape from a sense of isolation and anonymity through the Six Big S’s:
• Safety – in a controlled environment;
• Support – from medical professionals;
• Self-expression – through singing;
• Social Inclusion – by connecting and inter-acting with others;
• Skills – developing social skills alongside musical/vocal skills, listening, communication and many more.
Over the next 12 months we aim to create 3 choirs across Kent with 10 sessions with a vocal practitioner and medical professional. Sessions for the full project will start from mid-March 2015. The project will culminate with the choirs performing at Revelation St Mary’s for Christmas 2015.
This project is for those who those who are more likely to feel socially excluded or come from low income families/areas where child poverty is prevalent in Kent.
Matthew Sharp, Creative Director of Revelation said “It’s not brain surgery, it’s not the UN. It’s SINGING. Proven to lift the spirit, reduce stress and bring people together. As the father of three children, I know how valuable the human connection and the chance to openly express this life-changing time in life is. I also believe there’s a singer inside everyone. Give those singers a voice by voting for Song Born Every Minute.“
Karen Trimmings, General Manager of Revelation, said: “We love this project, it’s a real asset to Revelation, Ashford and beyond. Mums from all backgrounds will feel valued and find their voice amid the ‘no prams allowed’ British mentality whilst giving their child the best start in life by having access to beneficial information, professional support and of course singing! But this project relies on your vote!”
