Our project will work with people who have learning disabilities in Orkney, giving them the chance to meet new people, allowing them the chance to develop lasting relationships and meet possible partners to share their lives with.

It is estimated that more than 100 people who live on Orkney have learning disabilities. Listening to their views, we found that off-island placements or spells away for medical treatment can lead to feelings of isolation and the inability to reconnect with friends on their return.

The Friendship Network would enhance the well-being and quality of life of the people who live on the islands who have learning disabilities. The group will recruit a project coordinator and friendship facilitator who will organise and run activities to help run a series of activities and outings.
