CHUMS Recreational Therapies for Children
ITV Region: Anglia West / Year: 2013
Wrest Park Enterprise Centre
The grant will enable the CHUMS Bereavement, Trauma and Emotional Wellbeing Service to run a range of recreational and creative therapies for children who for a variety of reasons cannot readily engage in talking therapies. Activities will include a football school, creativity school, survival school, therapeutic group work for young people and parents, and online support for vulnerable young people. The project aims to empower young people, reduce emotional and behavioural problems and increase learning, academic achievement and career opportunities while also improving wellbeing for the wider community.
Through our initial pilot programme at the end of August we know that we can bring about significant changes with this more flexible approach. The children and young people really appreciated the time that was spent with them addressing their specific needs and this is demonstrated by the video on our website: http://www.chums.uk.com/events-media-2 which was just the beginning.
